You can get an unlimited everything sim for £16 a month, of course nobody uses unlimited data, if you monitor usage you might be better off with a limited data deal.Ttaskmaster wrote: 06 Mar 2025 09:25 Used to spend £30/mo on the phone, but that's all paid off.
Still spend £32/mo for SIM, but that's with unlimited everything.
The contract was useful for the ol' credit rating, not that I am looking for a loan right now, and it was the cheapest option for upgrading my old Galaxy S5.
How much do you spend per month on your phone contract?

Smarty, which is a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) on Three UK’s network, has recently introduced two plans that offer 32GB of mobile broadband data for £7 per month (normally 8GB) and 12GB for £6 (normally 5GB) – available until the end of March 2025 and lasting for 15 consecutive months. The move supports their new “Less Malarkey, More SMARTY” TV campaign.

I took a deal 2 months after joining Smarty as in their T&Cs they say if you manually ask a representitive to join a deal they will honor it, they're not just for new customers. I think originally my £15 deal was for 50GB, and the offer boosted it to 200GB which they've then kept for years after joining, whenever I expect it to end, they send a txt to say I'll be on the deal for another 12 months.Ice Tea wrote: 06 Mar 2025 10:45Smarty, which is a virtual mobile operator (MVNO) on Three UK’s network, has recently introduced two plans that offer 32GB of mobile broadband data for £7 per month (normally 8GB) and 12GB for £6 (normally 5GB) – available until the end of March 2025 and lasting for 15 consecutive months. You may find that the SIM no longer works, 8 months is a long time.Saracen wrote: 05 Mar 2025 21:23 In fact, I've had a new SIM sitting here for about 8 months and have yet to face the arduous (not) task of putting it in the damn phone. One day when I have 10 seconds to spare, and can be bothered, I'll stick the SIM in the phone.

I use about 400GB/mo these days, mainly due to streaming viewables and downloading a lot more stuff than I ever used to.Percy1983 wrote: 06 Mar 2025 10:41 You can get an unlimited everything sim for £16 a month, of course nobody uses unlimited data, if you monitor usage you might be better off with a limited data deal.
I did try switching to an O2 deal but, for the second time, they faffed me around so much that the change never went through and I CBA to push it any further.
Vodafone isn't the best, according to The Internet, but I often get signal where no-one else does, while the price I pay includes uncapped download speed and some add-on packages for the duration of my plan. .

I'm spending £12/month on 200GB with O2. They keep doubling my data, cos I'm a Virgin (customer)
Also got an £8 a month SIM on the same contract for my son, he gets 25gb a month I think.
Both SIMs have unlimited calls/texts

Yeah, could be. If so, I'm out a whole £1.00. I can't pretend I'd be that bothered. I may try it and see. If it is, I may throw caution to the wind and invest another £1.
Last of the big spenders, eh?
Thinking about it, even if it is invalid, I'm still breaking evven. I mean, think about it. If I'd activated it, I'd have had to make at least one call, send a little data or an SMS, every 180-days (IIRC) or it would've died anyway. And that would've cost me £1 to do. And I'd be having to do it again in about 3 months. But, the reason I didn't get around to installing (or activating) it is because I haven't actually needed to use it. It must be well over a year since I've used the phone for anything other than controlling Sonos spreakers, or listening to music on headphones (from SD Card), etc. I've pretty much repurposed the phone to a very small android tablet, on wifi.
